position shooting practice without sling

There is some testimony among shooters that establishing a sling supported position without using a sling is helpful for determining a good natural point of aim (NPA), then proceed with organizing the postion including the sling. How about shooting practice in kneeling without a sling? It has always troubled me in a match when I might shoot a better unsupported standing postion score than a supported kneeling score. Obviously the sling should help hold a better center. It probably makes no sense to shoot without the sling in prone for practice as managing the sling is so important for a good prone score. So what do y'all think....any benefits other than initial position set up to shooting kneeling in practice without a sling? TIA

No benefit unless you need to build up your arm muscles, and develop bad habits along the way. The sling is your support - learn to use it to it's fullest.
