Age Groups? What is "S1, S2, S3" ?

Post by atomicgale »

Age groups: We know we have Juniors with age grouping of: J1, J2, J3.

Is there "Senior" age group? I've heard mention of "S1, S2, S3" but don't know if these exist. If so, is there an actual standardization? If so, what are the numeric ranges?

We asked that question last December- Winter Air- Camp Perry. S1, S2, and S3 are documented on the WAG paperwork. No one we spoke to knew the answer. We did complete a diligent review of all related ISSF topics and all USA Shooting documents. There is nothing in the documents to answer the question. We emailed USA shooting some time ago, but have yet to receive a response. Nice catch!

But this senior (78) shoots standing up!
I brush my own teeth
I do not wear a diaper
I cut my own grass
I drive my own car
And I hunt big game in the Rocky Mountains every year!

Be careful with the link above, it is for supported shooting.

At one time the limits for the traditional air rifle and smallbore events were S1=50, S2=60, S3=70. Now, that changed say a year ago to, I think 45,60 and 70. It is all hearsay as I I have not seen it in writing anywhere.

Good Luck, your mileage may vary. :)

SH1 and SH2 are designations used by Paralympics.
Shooting Handicap 1
Shooting Handicap 2
It refers to where the spinal injury is in the athlete.

We have been aware of that. These are not SH designations, rather age groups, with simply S1, S2, and S3 on senior shooters (not handicapped) paperwork.

The "S1, S2, S3" designations were apparently used at the National Championships in June (the Ft Benning version in June, not the CMP version at Perry in July).

Hence, there were separate awards on this basis. Then, did they send an "S" athlete to Cairo based on an age bracket?

S1, S2, S3 are designations used by USAS shooting apparently handed down from ISSF.
CMP uses 'Senior' or (O60) for 60 and up and 'Grand Senior' for 70 an up. CMP Rule 3.4.2

Have not seen 'senior' events for any of the high level ISSF stuff let alone USAS coming up with the cash to send them.
