Hi,

How wide can you get the rear sight notch on the Walther SSP/SSP-e?
Mine goes to 4,5mm, is that it?

Not sure about the SSP but the new GSP500 will also only go to 4.5mm from the factory.

Sights
Front sight, 3.2 mm, 3.6 mm & 3.9 mm
Rear sight, factory min 2 mm / max 4.5 mm
The factory minimum for the rear 2mm is way too small for old eyes.
Insufficient rear opening for 3/1 rapid sight, So I modified the rear blades.
Now the modified rear has a of min 3.6 mm / max 6 mm
Can also now use a 4.2mm front sight if needed.

Seems strange that the widest front sight goes beyond the rear sight.

How did you modify it? File the sides?

Pull apart, mount in mill, finish with diamond lap and re-blue.

Yeah, right, like these bozos have a mill and diamond lap.

Buy a 3/16" chainsaw file at your local hardware store and file your rear sight into a half moon notch. The Russians kicked our ass for many years with this set-up.

What Rover said. If you want a wider rectangular notch, use a steel needle file.

The rear sight is not just a fixed "old " blade to butcher with a file.
They are seperate blades, adjustable for depth and width, mounted on fine
screw threads. They require fine workmanship to modify.
So if you cannot do whats required, DON'T TOUCH.
