Baikal IZH-46 Seals

Post by JHouse »

I have a Baikal IZH-46 that I dug out of my safe after not shooting it for 15 years. I am looking for a seal replacement kit for it just to have around should it become necessary, but I am having trouble locating any seals. Does anyone have a lead on seals (particularly a breech seal)? I’m hoping now that Air Venturi is making the AV-46M that those seals will be compatible and more available.

The AV46 seals will work as the action is the same.
Check eBay, AMAZON and PA for the seals you want.
If you need a rebuild MAC1 can handle that for you.

Thanks for the links. $26 for a little seal ($52 for the set) seemed a little steep at first. I guess they made it just special enough that there’s not a commercially available alternative. Looks like a lot of the full seal sets are out of stock in most places.

I am sure with the proper diameter rubber hose, two could be made DIY..
I will try.
Nothing else for an old curmudgeon to do in the winter.

I haven't needed to replace mine (yet) but I have always felt that a carefully selected o-ring would work. It would be rather soft, and would be perhaps 8mm o.d. and 4mm i.d., that is, about 2mm thick. Has anyone ever tried this?

Bump. We have a dead IZH-46M that I am told needs new seals. I see now, in Nov 2023, these are not readily available nor are they inexpensive. I recall someone telling me years ago "there is really just one seal that requires replacement....". I am not experienced nor is the fellow shooter who will likely undertake the project once we know our plan of attack.

Step 1. Lube with Air Tool lube. See if that helps an inactive air pistol.

Step 2. See how we might get some of the seals from Grainger or similar...

Step 3.... Ask for help here in the forum.

Given the shortage or seals and the expense of seals, any wisdom from others out there who have already explored how to service the seals on an 46M? This is a loaner gun for new shooters trying out air pistol.

Thanks!

For those looking to use o-rings as a less expensive option for breech seals:

If you're not using the pistol for a long time, always lubricate the piston seal and dry fire before guarding to prevent dry rotted seals.

If your problem is it won't pump, it could be as easy as above.

Here is a discussion suggesting that there may be a cheaper and readily available substitute for the factory breech seals.
(I have not tried them with my Izzy).
