USA Shooting is saddened to learn about the passing of Arnold “Arnie” Vitarbo. Arnie was our U.S. National Pistol coach from 1992-94. He is also a 1976 Pan American Games Gold medalist in free pistol and placed 4th at the 1968 Olympic Games. A retired technical sergeant, Arnie coached the U.S. Air Force International Pistol team six years prior to coaching the U.S. National team. Arnie also worked with the pistol team at the University of Utah and was the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) state director for Utah. Those closest to Arnie will remember him as a dear friend, great athlete, and mentor of shooting sports.

Greetings,

Very sad news.

Arnie and his wife helped me run an International Pistol match back in the '90's. The volunteered their help because they were "Shooters".

Rest in Peace, Arnie.

Cheers,

David

Sorry to hear about Arnie. We had a lot of fun together, joshing in Japanese and Italian (he had also been a Marine). We didn't talk about shooting much, but I did attend one of his seminars. We were both heavily into Italian cooking and sharing recipes. Cin, cin, Arnie!

Terrible loss to the shooting community. Arnie was a great pistol shot. He and wife Fujie were great friends to all those that knew them. I had the privilege of working with them both as volunteers at numerous championships. Arnie made some great pistol grips; still have a few. https://www.ssusa.org/content/the-inter ... get-grips/

RIP Arnie
