travelling by public transport in uk: edinburgh to bisley

Post by jedin »

I have carelessly qualified for one of the NSRA Eley Postal finals at Bisley (prone class C). I'm near the bottom of the finalists and not shooting well at present, so the obvious thing to do is just forget it, but there's a certain temptation to have the live competition experience. However, I've never travelled with my rifle and kit further than a few miles with a lift from somebody, and have no real idea how to do it (and I don't drive). Anybody have experience of travelling with a firearm on LNER and SWR? How would I get through London? I guess the underground's not a great idea, so it would be taxi? I do at least have a relative who stays near Bisley. (And how does one secure a plastic hard case for travel?)
thanks for any hints!
