Camp Perry Update

Post by CMP »

It is National Matches time at Camp Perry where the CMP
North staff and CMP program operations are based. The
Pistol Small Arms Firing School started one week ago and
the Matches continue through mid-August. We would like
to give you an update on some important things that are
happening at CMP in conjunction with the Matches.

NATIONAL MATCHES RESULTS ON-LINE. This year, anyone
interested in National Trophy Match results can see
them on-line on the same day the scores are fired.
To see National Trophy Matches results, log on to the
CMP web site at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi.
Then click on "competition results" and select the match
you want to see results for. Scores for the National
Trophy Pistol Matches on July 20 are posted now.
Results for the CMP Rimfire Sporter Match will be
posted on July 26. Results for the Rifle National
Trophy Matches results will be posted continuously
on August 5-9. The new CMP Competition Tracker makes
it possible to post match scores on-line within 30
minutes after the each event.

GUNS OF CAMP PERRY EXHIBITION AT CAMP PERRY. Any gun
or target shooting enthusiast who lives within day-trip
driving distance of Camp Perry should plan to make a
trip to Camp Perry this summer to see the GUNS OF CAMP
PERRY-100 YEARS OF NATIONAL MATCHES exhibition that will
be open 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM daily until August 16. The
exhibit was created through a cooperative effort of the
Ohio Gun Collectors Association and CMP. It includes
outstanding examples of service rifles, service pistols,
target pistols and target rifles that were used at Camp
Perry during 100 years of the National Matches. Several
of the pistols and rifles on display were used to win
National Championships. Also on display are hundreds
of photographs, shooting equipment and National Matches
memorabilia. The display is located next to CMP
Headquarters in the Arcade, across the street from the
Chapel.

SMALL ARMS FIRING SCHOOLS. Registrations in the 2003
Pistol Small Arms Firing School were the highest in over
ten years. Registrations for the Rifle Small Arms Firing
School that will take place at Camp Perry on August 3-4
also are ahead of 2002 numbers. We were, however, able
to increase range capacity for the school so that
additional registrations can be accepted. Anyone
interested in this year's rifle school can still register
on-line by opening the CMP web site at
http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/matchInf ... atchID=175.
Just follow the instructions to register. Remember
that check-in day for the rifle school is Saturday,
2 August, and that the school begins at 7:00 AM on Sunday
morning 3 August. These schools feature classroom
instruction by Army Team shooters and on-the-line coaching
from military team shooters representing all services.
If you have never attended a Small Arms Firing School,
you can still get signed up for this year's rifle school.

NATIONAL RIMFIRE SPORTER MATCH. It is still possible to
register for the National Rimfire Sporter Match that will
take place at Camp Perry on Saturday, 26 July 2003.
Rimfire Sporter has been called the Garand Match of rimfire
rifle shooting. Rifles are limited to .22 cal. sporters
that weigh 7.5 lbs. or less. Scopes to a maximum of 6X or
open-sighted rifles can be used. To obtain more information,
review the official match program and register on-line,
open the CMP web site at
http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/matchInf ... atchID=177.

GARAND AND SPRINGFIELD MATCHES. It is also not too late to
enter the 2003 Garand and Springfield Matches that will take
place on 8-9 August. Both matches are filling up fast, but
entry spaces remain available. Shooters who fire in the
Garand Match on 9 August will also have an opportunity to
attend the CMP and National Matches Centennial Celebration
that evening. The Centennial Celebration will feature a
U. S. Army Golden Knights parachute jumping exhibition and
a barbecue for all competitors. The match program is posted
on the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/NM/CMPGames.pdf.
The program provides details on the dates, times and how to
enter either match.

CENTENNIAL POSTERS. 2003 marks the 100th anniversary of the
founding of the Civilian Marksmanship Program and the National
Matches. To commemorate this Centennial, the CMP commissioned
a painting that now hangs in the CMP lobby. Posters, suitable
for framing, have been printed of the Centennial painting.
They can be purchased for $14.95 each at the CMP Store. The
CMP Store also has a supply of M1 and Springfield rifles and a
full range of memorabilia and training materials that are
available for purchase. When you are at Camp Perry, plan to
stop by the CMP Store in Bldg. #2500 (southwest side of the Camp
Perry post).

CMP STORE. During the National Matches, the CMP Store will be
open from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM daily through August 23. In
addition to the Centennial posters, government surplus M1s and
Springfields and other CMP sales items, there is a good
selection of memorabilia with the CMP Centennial logo.
Thanks for your continued interest in and support of the CMP.

Gary Anderson, Director of Civilian Marksmanship
