Beaman P11 piston air pistol shoot like RL22 1911?

Post by seamaster »

interestec in Beaman P11 piston air pistol to emulate RL22 shooting.

Does it emulate recoil RL22 ok ? or are they completely different feel, and don’t bother?

beeman P11 is the same as Weihrauch HW45 (Herman Weihrauch 45 caliber)

Anyone shoot this air piston pistol before? Must recoil like a 45, means not accurate at all? Beautiful piece of solid German machinery.

I have a couple P1s, which if I'm not mistaken, are the same as the P11 except for the grips. I don't know what an RL22 is, but if you mean a 1911-style 22LR, then I would say no, they are probably not that similar.

For one, the P1/P11 is significantly larger than a 1911 and front/top-heavy.

Although I have not fired a 1911 in 22LR, the P1 "kicks" less than my Browning Buckmark .22, and the feel is very different.

Can you shoot your P1 well? It is all over the target?

If it does not feel like .22, and it does not shoot well, what is this air piston pistol good for?

I only shoot the P1s "recreationally", not for training or competition, so I don't really have a reference for "shooting well". If I aim at a target and fire, sometimes I hit it, sometimes I don't -- depending on the size of the target! I've never used it on a 10m target range.

One common complaint is that power consistency can be a problem. The prevailing theory is that when fired in the 'low power' mode, the gun tends to diesel unpredictably, causing velocity to be high on some shots and low on others. I've heard this goes away eventually, but I can't speak to that. Probably a thorough cleaning of lube would help.

What are they good for? They are good for having fun, they are reasonably powerful for an air pistol, and they are a solid piece of engineering that should pretty much last forever. That was good enough for me. :)

From what I've read, the P1 can be tricky to learn to shoot with high precision, requiring a very consistent and/or a particular hold. Maybe that's why people say it's good for training for a 1911? If you want the same gun but easier to shoot, you want the P2/HW75, which is the SSP version, rather than the spring-piston.
