Position
Grip
Sight Alignment & Sight Picture
Trigger Control
Shot Sequence/Follow Through/Recovery

In all schools around the world these are the most important aspects of shooting. Each element can be worked separately and when all of them work together you execute an ideal shot. Focus is important too, but that is a personal aspect of shooting that is needed more in some people than others. I like to refer to the focus as targeted focus. In a World Cup I am usually fairly focused in general, however I do let my mind rest. I aim to ensure I am focused in the moments before the execution of a series, which I include in my shot sequence.

Sight picture is important more so than sight alignment as it takes into account the target as well.

You definitely have to take the sight picture & target into account, but sight picture is less critical than sight alignment. An equivalent error in sight picture will produce a higher score than the same error in sight alignment.

I did the math a while back: http://www.targettalk.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=53528

Hey Alex:

Would you change your ranking based on event? ie is grip and position more important in RF, sight alignment in AP, etc.

And I do want to say I really appreciate your participation here, it really adds alot.

John
