Rifle/Pistol Spring Selection Match to Help Determine Athletes for World Cup Munich & Gabala
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (March 31, 2017)

2016 Olympian Will Brown, shown here competing at the 2016 World Cup Finals, will begin his 2020 vision at USA Shooting's Rifle/Pistol Spring Selection Match in Fort Benning, Georgia beginning Monday. Brown’s two-gun finish in Rio was better overall than the 10 previous U.S. attempts since 1988 when both Air and Free Pistol were on the Olympic program at the same time. A top-two performance at the Home of Champions could possibly earn each athlete a trip to Munich, Germany or Gabala, Azerbaijan to compete in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cups.

Six Olympians are on hand ready to compete in the Selection Match that begins Monday with the start of Air Rifle and Air Pistol. In pistol, that includes six-time Olympian Emil Milev (Temple Terrace, Florida), three-time Olympian Keith Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and 2016 Olympian Will Brown (Twin Falls, Idaho). In Rifle, that includes two-time Olympian Michael McPhail (Darlington, Wisconsin), 2016 Olympian Lucas Kozeniesky (Fairfax, Virginia). Current Air Pistol National Champion and 2012 Pistol Olympian Nick Mowrer (Butte, Montana) is competing as a rifle athlete.

Current Three-Position Rifle National Champion Dempster Christenson (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) and Air Pistol National Champion Alexis Lagan (Las Vegas, Nevada) will also compete.

To earn World Cup consideration, athletes will have to be among the top-two finishers in a respective event and also have a score at or above USA Shooting’s Performance Standard Score (PSS). More on USA Shooting’s PSS policy.

This match will incorporate two courses of fire and two separate Finals in each of the eight contested events. World Cup slots earned through the selection process are based on the aggregate score from each course of fire plus the points earned from each Final.
