ClearsighT Optical System for Iron Sights

I have had several inquiries about availability of the CleasighT loupe
for shooting with Iron sights. I created it in the 1980's and nearly
ten thousand iron sight shooters worldwide have used it. It is even
likely that most of you have seen shooters from that time still using
the ClearsighT "shooter's loupe".

Basically, the ClearsighT has lenses in +0.50 and + 0.75 spherical
diopters and a loupe to hold the lenses on the shooter's shooting
glasses.

The ClearsighT is to be used on glasses that produce 20/20 distance
vision, NOT with reading glasses.

The ClearsighT lenses are designed to place the shooter's vision at
approximately the location of the front sight; that is, it makes the
shooter artificially near sighted, focusing on the front sight and NOT
the target. The target will be blurred using the ClearsighT (as it
should be!).

The cost of materials and availability is vastly different in 2011
than it was in 1980. I would have to sell the ClearsighT for around
$75.00, plus shipping and handling of about $7.50--- still less
expensive than dedicated glasses for shooting such as Knoblochs or
even specially cut shooting glasses.

SO - my question to the Forum is simple. Should I regroup production
of the ClearsighT? The advent of the Distinguished Revolver medal,
along with the need for Iron Sights to achieve the Distinguished Medal
with the Military pistol (both 1911 in .45 and the Beretta in 9mm) is
likely the reason for the renewed interest.

I have two of your ClearsighT units. Used them in pursuit of my first points for Distinguished Pistol Badge. They do work good if the loupe clamps to your particular glasses frame temple well enough.

Can you post some pics. I am a new shooter and have trouble visualizing the concept. I tried looking up images on google and just get operating lenses.

tleddy,,,,I bought your Hammerli 162E. Not sure if you remember me or not? I have 3 sets of the old Clearsights,,,,,,,,there isn't a day at the range if I have them out, I don't have offers to buy! I simply can't shoot "irons" without the use of Clearsight.

Never used a ClearsighT but I believe it's not permitted for international pistol competition, yet it's permitted for NRA conventional pistol. That puts it in the category of red dot sights, tennis elbow straps, and high-top boots. Hence I vote "yea".

(I avail myself of two of the above accommodations in bullseye and let me tell you they haven't put me over 2670 - nay, even 2650 - yet.)

$75 sounds reasonable - let the market decide. I wouldn't bet the under on 100 units sold.

It turns out my suppliers no longer exist, so no more ClearsighT

I am in my 80th year... I suggest seeking custom lenses from your optometrist with the +o.75 or + 1.0 diopters added to your distance vision 20/20 lens on your shooting eye. Think up-side down bi-focal with the plus correction on top.
