NRA removes membership requirement for competitions

Post by NRA »

Unity Mail Release:
June 30, 2008
Mike Krei, Director
Competitive Shooting Div.

NRA Board of Director’s Remove Membership Requirements for all NRA Competitive Shooting Activities.

Action was taken by the NRA Board of Director’s to remove the membership requirement to compete in NRA tournaments. This action was taken to open NRA’s tournaments to members of all shooting organizations worldwide and the shooting public.
NRA’s rules will change for Competitive Shooting Division and Law Enforcement Activities Division sanctioned tournaments including State Championships, Regional Tournaments, and National Championship. Effective date of this change is July 1, 2008. This decision will enable more people to participate in NRA tournaments and will increase the opportunity for added membership as people become involved in NRA competitive shooting activities.

Starting July 1, 2008 match sponsors will no longer be required to ask for proof of NRA membership for any NRA Registered tournaments.

On July 1, 2008 NRA rule changes will be made to all NRA online rulebooks to reflect the many areas in the rulebooks related to membership requirements.

Competitors will still need to be an NRA member to set a NRA National Record.

I think this is a positive move in capturing new shooters, especially with the costs associated with the sport these days.
