The book "Air Rifle Shooting" goes into the inner position in great depth but this book mostly focuses on Standing air rifle.

Brief Overview of what it says:

The inner position is comprised of four major components

Statics-Settling of weight on bones/minimise work done by muscles

Balance-obviously very important for Standing, maybe not so much Prone, but in standing your trying to eliminate sideways body sway, there will always be some but you want as little as possible, in kneeling you just don't want to fall over :)

Tensions-the muscles that must be used need to used as little as possible and used equally each time.

Breathing- Keeps your rhythm up as well as helps to relax. (conscious breathing that is)

You check these things one by one before you lower your head to the rifle and begin aiming.
The best thing to do is buy the book. This summary doesn't even scratch the surface of the detail found in this book but again it mostly focuses on Standing.

Hope it helps
