Question re optimum 10m Air Rifle velocity

Post by RFC »

I have just begun to introduce myself to 10m air rifle shooting. As part of this effort, I picked up an AA MPR with the SS butt hook and shroud, and added about 1 1/2 lbs of weight. The MPR allows for a good deal of velocity adjustment (590 to 800 plus fps with RWS Meisterkugens).

From a ballistics and accuracy standpoint, what is the optimum velocity range for match pellets?

Thank you

The premier manufactures all advertise their top-of-the-line air rifle products at 570 to 575 fps. This is no accident as this velocity is ideal for maintaining wadcutter stability ... and thus accuracy.

Bottom line --- sometimes faster is NOT better.

And you'll get a lot more shots out of a cylinder at the lower velocity.
