VV N310_Change in granule type??

Post by Dipnet »

After opening a new can of N310, filling the powder drop reservoir and loading 200 rounds of the AMU 45 ACP load, I suddenly realized that the old, tiny, irregular granules I had been used to were now short a stick powder like that of N320. Yikes, could I have a mislabeled bottle?!

Has anyone else noticed this change in their N310? I loaded the rounds with 4.5 grains, which according to the manual, would be under-loaded (if actually N320). Rats, very big ones, dipnet

I have N310 from a 2010 batch and a recent batch of 2014. Both look the same to me, the short stick like grains, which sounds like what you have now.
4.5 is a fast, long line load for me with the JHP. I actually don't even run it that fast anymore. 4.3 does just as good for me.

I don't remember N310 ever being irregular granules, always very small sticks.

I shoot Federal Factory for 50 yards at matches. I run the 4.3 load for short line and 25 yard slows.
I only make one load now. I've tried softer loads and lead, but i seem to shoot better with this load.

I've shot this 4.3 load at 50 yards and it knocks out the X with no fliers, so I call it a "long line" load.

Well, there must be a glitch (in the ol' eyeballs or memory) as I remember N310 being small irregular hard granules that were about the same sizes as Bullseye, but that's not what shown on a powder database (http://www.ilrc.ucf.edu/powders/sample_ ... wder_id=50). What other advantages does age bring? dipnet

310 is a tad smaller than 320. Easily seen by comparison, maybe not from memory.

Old VV310 granules were yellowish-grennish irregular grains. Still have some of that old VV310-stuff.

The biggest advantage of age is that every time I shoot now , it is the best I ever remember.
