In its theory section, recommended some overtravel after 2nd stage trigger break.
For my LP10, is it a good idea to have some overtravel?
I have been shooting with zero overtravel previously. I thought zero overtravel is the classic coaching. |

under pistol, under intermediate/advance adjustment, under theory.
It says when trigger breaks after 2nd stage, it will hit trigger stop. If there is no overtravel, hitting trigger stop will cause pistol to kick. It is more pronounce in 50M and 10M than in 25M standard.
Many of the British coach seem to ascribe to this theory. But I thought the classic trigger adjustment is to have minimal overtravel (can't be ZERO, otherwise your trigger lock up).
Is this important in trigger adjustment? Or is it simply a "idea" that makes no significant practical difference? |

http://www.shootingwiki.org/index.php?title=Intermediate_and_Advanced_Pistol_Adjustments#The_Theory is a part of ShootingWiki that could do with some additional material.
This "the theory' section would benefit if divided up into 10/50m precision, 25m general, 25m RFP - as well as discussion on differences between mechanical and electronic triggers.
Contributors welcome.
back to the topic, trigger adjustments are a very personal matter. For my own pistols there is a (comparatively) goodly amount of aftertravel, but that is a matter of the way I like my RFP trigger settings with the other pistols following a 'pattern' - FOR ME!
I can fully appreciate that another shooter would prefer minimum overtravel and some electronic triggers lend themselver to eliminating overtravel altogether.

The minimun after travel I will set a trigger at is 0.005-0.008" measured at the centre of the trigger shoe.
This stops any interference with the sear break and gives a little trigger movement.
I prefer about 0.020" for my own shooting, but even better is to change the spring/sear setup so that there is little or no trigger collapse after the sear break ie. no change in trigger weight. These triggers have no after travel stop. |
