Junior Distinguished Shooter Number One Awards New Junior Distinguished Badges

When PFC Brandon Green graduated from Bogalusa, Louisiana High School in the spring of 2003, he had become one of the most successful three-position air rifle shooters in the country. In March 2004, after completing U. S. Army basic and advanced individual training, he reported to Fort Benning as a new member of the U. S. Army Rifle Team. He arrived at Fort Benning during the 2004 National JROTC Championship where, as the first junior shooter to earn the Junior Distinguished Badge, he was invited present new Junior Distinguished Badges to two of the most recent juniors to go Distinguished. One of the most popular pro­grams for junior highpower rifle shooters is the CMP junior camp that is conducted each year at Camp Perry by the U.S. Marine Corps Rifle Team. This year’s clinic will open at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, 31 July (students must register Saturday morning be­tween 8:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.).

West Virginia University Reinstates Rifle Program

In spite of having the most successful college rifle team in the country, the President of West Virginia University decided to cut the rifle team for what was described as budgetary reasons in the spring of 2003. This decision led to a public outcry among the media and public in the State of West Virginia. Now, one year later, the West Virginia Legislature and Governor have led an effort to reinstate the WVU Rifle Team. Register for the 2004 Small Arms Firing Schools

You can now register on-line for the 2004 Pistol and Rifle Small Arms Firing Schools. These always popular schools will take place at Camp Perry, Ohio on 11-13 July (Pistol) and 31 July-2 August (Rifle). Pistol SAFS students will receive instruction and do range firing exercises with 9mm M9 service pistols. Rifle SAFS students learn to fire M16 service rifles. Classroom instruction is taught by Army Pistol and Rifle Team members. Coaching during the range firing phase is provided by rifle and pistol team members from Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy, reserve and active teams. Any shooting enthusiast who has not attended one of these schools is encouraged to come to Camp Perry this summer and take advantage of the outstanding instruction and shooting experience these schools provide.

Registration Open for National Rimfire Sporter Match

On-line registration has just opened for the National Rimfire Sporter Match. This will be the third year for this fast-growing recreation-oriented competition for smallbore sporter and plinking rifles. The 2004 competition will take place at Camp Perry on Saturday, 24 July. National Guard Junior Postal Results Final

The challenge period for the National Guard Junior Air Rifle Tournament Postal State Championship competition has ended and results posted on the CMP web site at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/report_m ... atchID=201 are now final. The results lists showing team scores after the old shooter/new shooter rule is applied are used to determine the 11 sporter and 11 precision teams that will be invited to the NGB national competition at Camp Robinson, Arkansas on 9-12 June. Official invitations to those teams will be issued by the National Guard Marksmanship Training Center during the week of 3-7 May.
