World Masters Games

Post by Don in Oregon »

I wanted to again remind you folks about the World Masters Games that are coming up in Edmonton, Canada July 22-31, 2005. There are all sorts of shooting events for Rifle: fullbore/highpower, smallbore, air; Pistol: air, .22, center fire, etc; Shotgun: skeet, trap, double trap, etc.
These events are open to anyone who is over 30 years old at the time of the Games. You do not have to qualify to attend/compete. Masters is a term meaning you are over a certain age, depending on the sport entered, and not a Master class level competitor. These WMG's are bigger than the Olympics and there should be around 25,000 or more athletes entered. There will be an opening ceremony, tours, off-time events, parties and so on the entire time.
I have attended WMG's in Arhus, Denmark; Brisbane, Australia and Melbourne, Australia and will be in Edmonton, too.
The Masters Games idea is growning and every year, there are at least 6-10 being held with all sorts of sports programs. Many include some shooting, but not nearly as much as the WMG. Most are in N.Z./Australia, but a couple of other places are looking at the concept.
Anyway, if you want to check out the web site, with much more info, go to: www.2005worldmasters.com for more info, including forms and info on taking firearms to Canada. Hope to see bunches of shooters up there this time.

Thanks for the reminder of the WMG!

For Canadian shooters, the 2005 World Masters Games will be held the week following the Canadian National Pistol Championships, so you'll be able to compete in the Nationals in Prince Albert, Sask, and then make the short trip over to Edmonton for the Masters.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
