2004 FINAL OLYMPIC SHOTGUN TEAM TRIALS

Post by USAS »

FORT BENNING, Ga. –As the wind settled down on Fort Benning’s Hook range, so did the shooters’ nerves, making the second day of competition at the Final Olympic Shotgun Team Trials even more exciting than the first.

It was also a day of home-range advantage as the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit’s very own Sgt. 1st Class Bret Erickson (Buena Vista, Ga.) stepped it up big time and shot three perfect rounds of 25. Erickson scored an impressive 98 for the day, and crushed that five-point spread between him and Lance Bade (Colorado Springs, Colo.) to take the lead by one.

Erickson and Bade have now separated themselves from the pack with a total score of 430 and 429, respectively, as they head into the final day of competition. Seth Inman (Lexington, Mo.) hangs in there with a 423 total score, which is currently good enough for third, but is not good enough to make the Olympic Team. Only the top-two will be allowed to represent the U.S. in this summer’s Olympics.

Seventeen-year-old Collyn Loper (Indian Springs, Ala.) continues to lead in women’s trap with a total score of 409. USAMU Staff Sgt. Joetta Dement, of Seale, Ala., is now nipping at her heals with a 408. Loper’s day-two score of 89 dimmed in comparison with Dement’s 92, and the two of them are now the one’s to look to as they battle for that one Olympic slot in women’s trap. Amanda Dorman (Peyton, Colo.) is the next in line with a 395. Dorman hit a 77 for the day and fell 14 points behind the leader.
