The International BB Gun and Air Rifle Championships, sponsored by Daisy and USA Shooting, will return to Bowling Green and Western Kentucky University July 2-14 after a six-year absence.
Together, these two matches make up the third largest shoulder-to-shoulder shooting competition in the world, behind the Olympics and the U.S. National Championships.

During this 12-day period, 800 to 1,000 competitors from all 50 states, the United Kingdom and Canada are expected to compete in the International BB Gun Championship matches, Air Rifle and Air Pistol Championships matches and the Junior Olympic National Championships. This will be the first time the Junior Olympic Nationals are held in Kentucky.

“When discussing with other coaches from across the country where to have the championships, they wanted to return to Bowling Green because of its central location, it’s easy to get to and the warm hospitality they have felt here like nowhere else,” said Joe Tinsley, assistant U.S. Shooting Team coach and head coach of the Corvette City Shooting Team. The 2003 event was held in Wilmington, N.C., and in Atlanta in 2002.

“We are thrilled to see this event return to Bowling Green with the addition of the Junior Olympic Nationals,” said Steve Small, sports sales director of the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The economic impact these eight- to 20-year-olds and their families will have on our area is far reaching.”

Warren County ranks fifth among Kentucky’s 120 counties with a tourism impact of over $160 million and 3,687 tourism jobs.
