Importing Air Rifle and Sius to US

Post by mishradk »

Hello Friends,
I am from India and I will be moving to US for couple of years because of my job assignments.

I have few questions.
1. While purchasing a new FWB 700 / 800 Compressed Air Riles do we pay import duty in US ? what is the % rate now a days?
2. If I bring in my old Air rile (FWB 700) along with me as a checked in baggage, do I have to pay Import Duty?
3. I currently use a Sius HS10 target scoring system. If I bring that along while coming to US, do you think I have to pay Import Duty there too ?

Sorry If I am posting at a wrong forum of if my English is bad..

Thanks in advance..

Regards

I can't say for sure but you should not pay an import duty on personally owned items. All of this is under $10,000 so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I, too, don't believe you'll hit any thresholds for duty. You may want to try to navigate the US Customs website for more information. Seehttps://www.cbp.gov

Hello Mishra,

What is your final destination in US? You might have more problem with local state laws than the customs. In some states, your rifle might require a permit.

If you are buying it here, you won't pay duty, but may need to pay sales tax depending on where you live and where you buy from (and possibly how you buy.)

You may run into import tariffs when you return to India; I don't know anything about that.

The only states you may have to worry about is New York, New Jersey, and Illinois. Oh we can't forget Washington DC the new birth place of Socialism. The only state I am fairly sure that regulates airguns is New Jersey. You should also check into the regulations of the city you are going to be living in as there is a small handful that treat airguns the same as firearms. If it is only the city that has the regulation and not the state you can live outside the city limit and then your home free.

Hi friends,
Thank you for your enlightening information.

My client has location at San Francisco, San Diego in CA or Dallas in Texas.
Not exactly sure which office I will be joining.

Looks like too complicated.. I was thinking only bringing in Air rifle will be a big issue..
In fact I had ordered my FWB 700 directly from ahg-anschutz back in 2006 when I was living at Arlington Heights (IL). They could not deliver in time and I had to redirect that to India and we had lot of issue.. I had to pay almost 46% duty..

But things are changed now.. Air rifles are not considered as fire arms and any club member can import it duty free. I got my 2nd FWB similarly.

And rules related to firearm are same throughout country. So when I return, my NARI shooter ID card will be enough to clear my Air rifle from customs.

Let me figure out my location first. But looks like I can safely bring in SIUS HS10 without much trouble.

In case I need to bring in. Hope for that there are no special rules for that too..

Thank you again..

Dallas is definitely the best choice!

I would agree with San Francisco being the worst choice and not only that the cost of living in those California cities are outrages next to the taxes and regulations.

The airline may have a problem with your compressed air cylinder. Also, if you come to Dallas check out Team Shooting Stars.

Right now, bringing guns into a city full of gay bars isn't the best idea.

If you want to bring your 22LR match rifle it won't be any difference in paperwork. The HS10 shouldn't be an issue at all unless you want to be an importer to retailers in this country.
