Make Shooting Great Again!

Post by hundert »

No, not another Trump support thread.

It's just a small thing I'd like to ask you to do.

This here is a small initiative to increase popularity
of shooting sports, especially for younger generations.

The youth spends a lot of time on the internet these days, youtube would probably account for a good chunk of it, and this is also true for many of us older folks here.

Yet if you go to youtube to look for sports related shooting videos you will see very little apart from ISSF videos. There's a German video from 1994, some Italian stuff from Bruno Francesco I don't understand, and a black and white Soviet video on how to shoot pistol, apart from that there isn't much. The comment section of those videos leave a lot to be desired. There's not a single video about the Steyr LP1 for example. And only a few about LP10, despite its popularity (and I believe one is in french, one is in German, Steyr tuning videos don't help our purpose). samEEE made one about Morini. Something like that would be very nice!

So, let's change that.

Make videos, about LP1, about any other pistol, about shooting, about rear sight adjustment, about correct aiming, targets, anything related to Olympic pistol. Wikipedia Pages of some of the greatest shooters are empty, with only a bronze medal at some Olympics games mentioned.

I think there are many out there (those who younger) who'd probably want to shoot competitively, but they don't know there's such thing, because they have never come across it. I know what I'm talking about, been there. No, I had no idea you could become Olympic champion with a freaking "BB gun". There's so little about sports related shooting on youtube.

Don't have a camera? There's more stuff you can do.

Comment on ISSF or other videos, ask which pistol a particular athlete is using, don't force the comment, ask things you'd really want to know, or just comment on the new finals format or any other subject. Like or dislike the video. Or just type how sexy one of the female shooters is, it don't matter. Hey sexe, wanna come to my room later and see my gun? (No, actually don't do that.)

If somebody makes fun of shooting glasses, tell them all of these guys will hit an apple from 50 meters away off hand, impress them.

Impress people with the fact that you can become Olympic champion with a "freaking BB gun".

To me Olympic shooting is like yoga, a dialogue with oneself, it teaches you to relax and control your emotions. Will this make someone join? I don't know, but maybe I should write that? It's a different view on fire arms compared to bang bang Hollywood movies.

I specifically talk about air pistol, the gateway drug to shooting. It's inexpensive (the pistol can be sold later, when money needed, pellets are super cheap). And when they're hooked, they can try harder stuff. Like heroin.

All I'm asking is a wee bit of your time, to be a little more active, but don't force yourself to do anything, watch an ISSF video only if you really want to. Maybe you like me find Munich's range ugly as hell, so write it.

This will connect the community better. There will be more talk. Maybe the ISSF will know the opinion of others, because they clearly don't and that may also be due to the lack of connection between the shooters and the ISSF. Write a comment on the music. Do you like it? Do you not? Add some info to the wiki page of your favorite shooter.

And yes, vote for Trump.

Another thing you might do and I have done is to go to your local PBS station and ask them if they could do a series of programs on the various areas of the shooting sports with the local clubs, etc. My PBS folks are talking about it and I have had a face to face with them but nothing is for sure yet. I am still hoping. This will expose the sport to many people that know nothing about paper punching instead of people punching. Worth a try. Don in Oregon

Dennis DeMille and me are going to start a video blog discussing products and techniques. Dennis will be taking care of the high power and I'll be doing the SB and air topics. We are planning on taking questions from the comments of the videos and each week answering a few of them. They will be posted on Creedmoor Sports Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CreedmoorSports/

Please like and share them so we can help each other and raise awareness and popularity of the sport. We'll be starting that this week hopefully so if anyone has any topics they want us to cover, let us know.

Another way to introduce young kids to shooting sports is by supporting your local 4H programs. 4H has a complete shooting sports program from air rifle and pistol, thru smallbore to trap, archery and muzzleloader. Check what you local county offers and help out. If your county does not offer a program, see what you can do to start one. 4H offers training for instructors, material to help teach practices and holds a national match each year in Grand Island Nebraska.
They offer a great program that is in most cases overlooked.

I had thought it was Mark Twain, but I believe that it was indeed good ole Abe Lincoln.

I figured we should start with athletes whom we have recently seen winning a World Cup, last Olympic games etc, because that's where people look first. Some athletes, like Andrija Zlatic, Yusuf Dikec, Jitu Rai and Jin Jongoh have great Wikipedia pages. Some others have very little info.

I need volunteers to fill Wikipedia pages of the following athletes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktoria_Chaika
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Jang-mi
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomoyuki_Matsuda
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoaneta_Boneva
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%A9line_Goberville
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tien_Chia-chen
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tan_Zongliang
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wang_Zhiwei
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daryl_Szarenski
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chen_Ying_(sport_shooter)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_Carrera
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pang_Wei
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Isakov
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexei_Klimov
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Grozdeva
Will Brown
Anna Korakaki

It's important we add the info before the Olympics start. People should not be disappointed when looking for info. Doing just one person per volunteer is enough. Pick your favorite athlete and add some info.

The folks speaking out against Trump are helping me make up my mind a little more every day!

Is he the Perfect Candidate whose opinions mirrors mine on all fronts? NOPE

Does he say everything the way I wish he would say it? NOPE

Am I absolutely sure that his motives are absolutely pure? NOPE

Can I point to any other Dem Politician that I like better? NOPE

Are there any of the other RINO Politicians I like better? NOPE

Am I going to sit home, refuse to vote and let Hillary win; because he is NOT Perfect? NOPE

Do I like what I have seen for the last 7-1/2 years with the Jerk that sleeps in my White House? NOPE

Do I like the "fundamental changes" that same Jerk has brought about in MY America? NOPE

OK, your turn to decide what you are going to do in about 5 months! (Nov 8 2016)

Well said, Rover! There WERE other Republican candidates I'd rather support, but they have all fallen by the wayside. While I'm not sure what Trump will do, I'm pretty darn certain which direction Hillary will head and I don't like her position on ANY issue important to me, especially guns, taxes, foreign policy, etc.

Additionally, while I believe Trump is only middling honest, I am convinced that Hillary is as crooked as they come. I hope all of the "Never Trump" folks are happy with the way the country turns out should Hillary be elected. If you don't like that thought, then DO SOMETHING about it. Contribute time and money to the process, even if you find yourself holding your nose as you vote for Trump. Another four years of Obama-like governance and one to four SCOTUS nominations would irrevocably change our country for the worse.

I retired from the Air Force long ago, but the oath I took then to uphold our constitution is still in effect today.

Hillary has already stated publically that Australia's gun control scheme (a nearly total ban on private ownership of most firearms) is something that she thinks we should emulate.

One thing you might consider when thinking about Trump is that no one is going to work with him. The dems won't, the repubs won't, the military won't ( I think they are the most afraid of him, I wouldn't want any kids in the military with him as President). It wouldn't surprise me if after a few years of not being able to do much of anything He quits and we're left with whomever he selects as VP. I think we will have 4 years of total stalemate with a blunderhead screaming all the time. I would like to see congress and the senate get back to work and quit all the bickering. I've never liked the Clintons, but they don't scare me as much as Trump. I think I'll write in somebody I like, it's my vote.

Mmmm Someone must have forgotten to tell those of us here about this ban!

Yep semi auto fire arms are not freely available, mind you there's no real reason for the average shooter/hunter to need them. Do we miss the mass shootings? Nup.

Oh and as for no shooting sports, funny how Australia just picked up Gold in the women's trap.

China and Russia both have very successful Olympic shooting programs. It does not mean that the citizens of their countries enjoy the freedoms of firearm ownership.

Yes, I am an Australian, but how insulting (and uninformed) do you really want to be?
Australia's ONGOING shooting record stands on its own feet.
