Air Pistol 10 meter distance question??

Post by dctfn »

I am new to the sport, and shoot my Pardini K58 in the garage. Makes a great practice range. My question: Is the 10m distance measured from the stance or the muzzle end of the pistol?

Thanks, dctfn

Rule 6.3.8.5

..... No part of the shooter's body may contact the floor or ground ahead of the edge of the firing line nearest to the shooter. In your words - stance - keep the toes behind the line.

If you do not have a garage that is 36 feet long, you can always shoot reduced size targets. In the winter, I use targets that are correctly reduced for a 6 meter range - which fits perfectly inside my office (the garage is too cold in the winter). A properly reduced target is correctly proportioned to provide the same site picture as a standard target at 10 meters.

Reduced targets are legal in some postal matches, as the scoring rings are also reduced in diameter. It is suggested in some rules that scoring across rings be down rather than up.

Now let's see how many purists want to take me to task for suggesting reduced targets. Just remember, using reduced targets may mean the difference between a place to shot and no place to shoot.

I too have a K58 - great gun. All you need is a tin of pellets and something to shoot at.

Thanks for the info. About scoring: For example, when the shot is placed on the line between the 9 and 8 ring, how ist it scored?

About reduced size target scoring

Post by Bill177 »

The target is reduced in size so that it is visually accurate for shooting - the pellet, however, does not change in diameter. Hence, some see an advantage, score wise, in shooting reduced size targets.

To remove this advantage, it has been recommended that shots cutting a ring be scored to the low side of the ring - reverse from what is done on full-size targets.

I am not aware of any requirement for this, however, it is mentioned on a couple of the postal sites.

Try this for practice

I also practice in the garage and can if shooting diagonally get in the required 10 meters. It is easier to shoot 25 feet however and leave the "range" set up so I just use the TQ-6 target instead of the B-40. The results are pretty even, when going to the B-40 at 10 meters I usually shoot 1 to 3% higher scores than I do on the TQ-6 at 25 feet. I am a duffer and shoot in the low 500's so you can take this advice with a grain of salt ;~). It is fun and keeps me ahead of the other duffers I regularly shoot with.

It appears to me that group is one of the most important points in practice. The group is easily moved with the sights. In this case I would suggest a target without rings would be just as good so long as the sizes are relative to the distance to keep the "aim picture".

Just my opinion.

The most I can get from the inside dimensions of my garage is 23 ft. Therefore I need a reduced target for 6 meters. Where can I purchase this target or do you have other suggestions to suit my needs. I am a novice to shooting air pistols , although I have several years of experience shooting rim and centerfire ammo. I have been shooting the K58 for a couple of weeks and from 10 meters I can now consistently keep everything from the seven ring in. How do you or others that would care to comment, feel I am doing with my progress.

Thanks, dctfn

Sounds like you are doing fine. Figure out why you toss a 7 ring now and then and work on keeping them all in the 8 or better. Then figure why those 8's are happening and work on that (this is where I am at currently so you are gonna make me try harder ;~)

On the targets I don't know where the reduced 6 meter targets are but in reality anything you practice on within reason is fine. You are looking for smaller and smaller groups. Don't take bad or questionable shots, put the gun down and start a new shot if you don't think you are going to make a good one.

6-meter targets

Post by Bill177 »

I use Ian Pellant's free software to produce my targets with. I print a master, then use a copying machine to produce the targets on proper target paper (heavy short fiber paper - which is difficult to find). I made a couple of thousand last fall - so am doing fine - typically, I use about four a session. No one sells this target that I know of - wish they did, there is a lot of demand.

Maintenance Information

Post by dctfn »

Hey guys, I very much appreciate your information. I would like to open a new subject. What are your recomendations in regards to cleaning and maintenance of the Pardini pistol? When I spoke with Dan Nygord, he emphasized there is very little maintenance required. There is allot of advertisement, obviously to sell product that is not needed to protect the performance of any air pistol. Your thoughts? Directing what I should do without getting raped by commercialism in this sport.

Thanks!

Best Regards, Fred

abaut 10m shooting

dctfn:
First, your question about one shoot betwen 8 and 9 ring. If the hole of the pellet "touch" the 9 ring is a 9.
Targets:if you try searching: ian pellant targets, you take the free download file to shoot at 6m with no "clik" your pistol to shoot at 10m in the 10m target.

Overoil:
Dont put much oil in your pistol, only a drop in the folding parts is suficient.
