Vostok .22 short ammo - any good?

Post by Mike M. »

I've got an old Walther OSP, and a case of R25...which is no longer made. But there's a stock of Vostok .22 short ammo on the market. Is this stuff any good?

I've used Vostok .22 short in FAS 601 and Hammerli 230, but only for training. The reaction of the Vostok ammo was very comparable to that of the R25, that I used for competition. The reason to use Vostok was the price: about 50% cheaper than R25. When you count about a brick per training... However, the number of misfires were quite big and the Vostok made the gun a little dirtier, so it needed more cleaning, especially the 230! The chamber of the Hammeri was a little tighter than the FAS, so with the 230 there were quite some feeding problems. I don't know how well they function in the OSP. The best way to find out, is to buy a couple of boxes to try. (Try before you buy)
Unless you like to use the gun in (nonofficial) competitions, the Vostok is an ammo that can give you some fun.
Hoping to have been of some help.
Good shooting.
