Stopper Stocks

Does anyone out there have an opinion on Stopper Stocks? Do you like, or dislike yours? How adaptable is it to your position? Does your barreled action perform well in the stock? How are the buttplates?

I am looking to replace the stock on my prone rifle so I will not be using it for position (unless of course I find it far out performs my 3P rifle).

It is tough to buy something like a stock sight unseen. Any info would be great.

I use a Stopper stock. I selected it in small part because it is not cast and is less likely to fracture, but mostly because the best shooter i knew and admired at the time used one, so I went straight to his coach/gunsmith/mentor and said "make me one just like that".

I have since learned that taking the bbl action out of the stock for air transport reduces the stress and makes the stock less likely to fracture

I am not entirely satisfied with the adjustability of the Stopper's cheekpiece. As issued, it goes up and down only. If I were willing to take out a rasp and bondo that would be less of an issue.

The buttplate is less complex than the other stocks but you can swap that part out. Wigger and a few others advised me to just use a flat buttplate, I put an old plastic anschutz prone and later an AR-15 butt plate on it for a while but went back to the V-block and hook because I feel it works better for me.

The 2000 action mounts right onto a non-metal bedding plate and I saw no problems taking it on and off (when I flew).

I have been thinking a lot about the G&E lately. But I am not convinced the 9's I shoot would be any different with any other stock, especially looking at the scatt traces... its me.

Note that the guy who won gold in Prone and shot the highest score (just not all on the same target) in 3-P in Athens uses a wooden stock.

Where are you at? if you are in or near Arizona we might be able to arrange a meeting between you and a Stopper stock.

sorry the quality of the photo's is not high

and the ugly guy holding the gun..... uggghhhh

the main element are some extruded channels running full lenght of the stock with stuff bolted on top and bottom

I live in Southern NY. I wish a trip out west was in my plans but I am east coast bound for the rest of the year.

I am looking to get the adjustment benefits of the AL stocks. I would go with wood, but have been unable to find something that exactly suits my needs. I shoot a wood stock for 3P, and have no desire to change. I am intrigued by the slimmer forend on the AL stocks for prone as well.

It looks kinda like the aluminum stock that I made for my Win 52. I wish I had some pics handy...
