Rocky Mountain ... oops .... Robert Mitchell match is going on.
With the new staff assignments, I expect the competitions folk(s??) is pretty swamped.

Patience grasshopper. Last years cutoffs are a good rule of thumb.

Does anyone know what the j3 woman's score was lowered to last year?

Did they lower the J3? I kinda doubt it.
I think the J1 would have been lowered first in all events, especially WAR as it was below the J2.
As I recall there was not much lowering.

Note I'm in the distinct minority who would like more J2 & J3 competitors. I am of the opinion that the J1 levels should be very tough and basically a shark tank. They've had their J2 & J3 years to improve to the point of competing for the jackets.
J2 & J3 are there for the experience of a big national match ... if they do really well (and many have!) hooray for them. I opine that we need to use this event not only to pick out the best older Juniors, but excite & keep the J2 & J3 competitors in the sport.

I'm in the distinct minority with you. Well said and makes perfect sense.

the daughter unit, is Michigan Air Rifle Champion (Gold with 375) and ive HEARD she will get an automatic invite for that even though its under the 385 cut off score...

she earned Silver in Small Bore (531) and im anxious to see if i need to book an entire week of hotel room or just partial week. i need to schedule my vacation for that and i like to have things taken care of as soon as i can...

That 385 Cut-off is for Auto Invite (J2) .... J3 is 370.
The State Winner ALSO goes as an automatic invite as long as minimum score is met ... that is 300, so yes ... Auto invite for Airgun.
So 2 auto invite methods.

My guess (and remember it's only a guess) is that she will not make the Round-1 cutoff for SBR nor the Round 2. I just don't think the cutoff will drop that much. It's usually within 1-2 points from the previous year on Round-1 and MAYBE 5 on Round 2.

Air is usually in the first part of the week for women. I don't know how old she is, but make it a goal so that if she gets both she can stay in the dorm. For the vast majority of the J2 & J3 shooters, the JO's are EXPERIENCE. Get them used to shooting in a big tank of hungry fish. Sometimes we have to put trash cans in front of them, a few are so nervous. Fully one half or more of that experience for the younger shooters is getting to meet, eat, sleep & shoot together.
As they progress the friends they will make from all over the USA will help them to continue in the sport ... and they get nowhere near the benefit of going to the JOs if they are not staying with the other shooters.

If you are like "OH MAN ... a hotel room AND a dorm room!" ... Take the Level-1 officials test, go thru the online volunteer training, and fill out the volunteer form and ... Volunteer --- Range Officer, Runner, "Dorm-Mom" ... lots of things to do and you can stay in the dorm too if they need folks, and they usually do.

My youngest started in the dorms at 13 rooming with her older sister and was pretty bummed that the oldest was hanging around all her friends ... Looking for Anton Ono, Michael Phelps, etc. had to tell her go hang around the J3 shooters there. Many of those girls are now lifelong friends and competitors in college now. The gals probably won't remember who won what event years later, but they will remember the times and antics they had with their shooting friends.
In my opinion, the EXPERIENCE of the JOs will stick with them, and to make the most of that put them in the dorms.

yeah, i didnt figure she would make it for smallbore...

i just completed the USAS Safe Sport Certification Program (93%. missed #12) and have the volunteer form ready to print and complete. do i need the NCIS background? as far as other training, im pretty well trained and experienced with the shooting sports (i wont go into it all here)...

are the dorms only available for those shooting BOTH events or would she be able to do so for just the air rifle? we could do the dorms based on your suggestions although this we were planning on rolling a bit of vacation into the trip...

Amelia is 16 and knows a J3 who will be there and knows a couple of other girls (one an RA?) and another from Alaska who will be there so thats good too...

First rounders get first choice on dorms, so sure she can apply for one.
Do the volunteer form and scan & send it in to Alex and call and ask him if he needs help at JOs.
Make sure you let him know you did the Safe Sport and have him give you the link to get the Level-1 Officials test.
Send that back in with $10 I think (basicly, they have someone do the BG check)

If he can use you he'll let you know. I can't make it this year, but it's always a good group to work with.

usashooting has a link to the test. im taking it now lol. ive got the volunteer form filled in already...

still debating the dorms vs hotel. there are advantages of the dorm but like i said this is a little bit of a vacation and we'll be in Denver for part of the time. Air Rifle is 2nd for Women this year, so with the check out RIGHT AFTER the events, we would have to get vacation time at the front end, which isnt a big deal...
