How can I practice when I feel my rifle heavy

Post by Shigechee »

Hi, I am novice Japanese beamrifle shooter and practicing with shooting table.
But even with the table, I can't practice for a long time because I can't stand the heaviness of my rifle.
Please give me your advice for my better practice.
Thanks.

First off, what is a beam rifle? As for feeling heavy, it seems you need to build your muscles more and do some exercises. That would help a lot. Or, get a lighter rifle. Just my 2 cents worth. Don in Oregon

In Japan, gun control is very strict so Japanese can't purchase gun easily, even air rifles.
Beam rifle is a replacement of these rifle for target shooting sport.
It shoots a kind of beam to electric target instead of pellet, the target catches it and displays mark and point.
It sounds like cheaper than air rifle, but accuracy is good so it is used for the National Athletic Meet in Japan.

BTW what is better menu for building my body?
I can't reduce the weight of rifle by reason of some rules.

Depends on what and how you are shooting.
For me once I get into a 'target shooting' stance, the weight of the rifle is no longer an issue, as I am not using muscle to hold the rifle up.
So if you are using muscle to hold the rifle up, yes, there is a limit to how long you can hold the rifle before your muscles get tired. And there is little you can do about it. You can build up your endurance by excercising the affected muscles, but eventually your muscles will reach the end of their endurance.

You need to describe your shooting scenario.
Is this match competition, or casual shooting, or action shooting, or ...

Yes, my goal is target shooting competition.
But my current skill(and English :-p) is poor, so I wanna make it better.

Someone says "Rifle is held by bones, muscle is not nessesary."
I don't understand what does it mean.

No matter what your position, standing, kneeling, sitting, or prone, you should be letting your bones support the rifle as much as you can. I know that this sounds simple, but like many things in our sport the simple things are deceptively hard to do well.

I've found that this video explains the concept pretty well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h11HE5Viuuw

I hope this is helpful, and I hope you continue to enjoy marksmanship.

Hello Shigechee,
I would like to talk with you a little about your experiences with a beam rifle. This seems like an excellent way to learn to shoot.

This is off your topic so if you (or anyone else for that matter) are willing to chat with me a little please e-mail me at scjayne@aol.com.

Thank you,
Steven
