Winchester/NRA Awards instead of the defunct USAS Passport?

Post by Texdance »

I believe 4H has dropped the USAS/4H Passport program. I am looking into the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program at:

Does anyone use the Win/NRA Marksmanship program? Is it alive and well and workable for a 4H 3-Position Smallbore Rifle group?

Especially for the younger shooters any little "bauble" that you can present them is enormously important to them. Eventually (hopefully) they will move from an extrinsic rewards shooter to an intrinsic rewards shooter, but that can take a few years ... longer with the younger shooters ....

When the 4-H passport program was starting to winnow down and pins were becoming unavailable, I had some of my more experienced shooters going back to their old shooting bags and pulling off the pins to award to the new shooters ... I honestly think they got more out of awarding "their" old pins to the newer shooters than they got when they themselves received the pins.
