2014 World Cup P3 25m Pistol & R4 AR Standing

Post by Thomas Monto »

OTC residents McKenna Dahl and Mike Tagliapietra earned coveted Direct Allocation (Quota) slots at the IPC Shooting World Championships in Suhl, GER. DA slots allow a country to enter an athlete in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in BRA

McKenna, who just graduated from high school and moved to the OTC last month, was the third ranked woman in the R4 10m Air Rifle Standing Mixed SH2 event. IPC allocated 6 slots for men and 3 for women, so she earned the first slot for team USA. She shot a smart, consistent solid performance, not far off her personal best. She is very relaxed and confident going into tomorrow’s R5 event and the FTR2 event on 7/26.

Mike Tagliapietra qualified for the P3 25m Pistol Mixed final today. While he was disappointed to finish 8th, several of the athletes who finished higher already had DA slots from the P1 event, so he earned a second DA slot for the US. He got off to a very rough start when he was unable to hear the unusually quiet “load” command before his first series. He was still loading during the first shot, but got the next 4 down range. The new finals format is scored in hits, so it wasn’t the end of his chances, but he was certainly frustrated by it. It was a great but painful learning opportunity that he won’t forget. He competes again in the P4 event in 2 days, then FTP on 7/26.
