Hanover Day 2

Post by Thomas Monto »

Two days, two gun malfunctions…

Yesterday Shaun Tichenor had to battle multiple malfunctions with his sport pistol, costing him about 20 points and a possible MQS for Worlds. Today is was Mike Tagliapietra’s turn when his free pistol sear spring broke just as the P4 match began. He was able to borrow a similar Toz generously provided by CZE competitor Roman Gronsky who had fired on the previous relay. By the time Mike got his left-handed grip mounted, he had about 45 minutes to shoot all 60 shots (and learn a new trigger, adjust sight settings, get used to different balance, etc.). Mike kept his cool, finishing with just over a minute remaining. Fortunately, he had his MQS from Rio last year, so the near miss didn’t hurt so much.

Hopefully that covers our malfunction “learning opportunities” for the year, not just this week…

Shaun Tichenor did achieve his P4 MQS firing the exact score he needed in his least favorite event. He is looking forward to P1 Men’s Air Pistol tomorrow.
