Model 41 Trigger Issue

I just had an issue crop up this afternoon on my "A" series Model 41. There seems to be an issue with the trigger: at first it seemed to be getting stuck on the reset. This required taking my finger entirely off the trigger at first, and developed into needing more coaxing. I swapped barrels and had three incidents where the gun fired upon dropping the slide onto the first round (of course pointed safely downrange). Before this the trigger has been dead reliable, pulling at about 2.4 lbs, and reliably resetting. It has never before done the premature firing thing (finger well away from the trigger). I do basic cleaning nearly every time I shoot, mostly using Balistol. Lube the slide on occasion. That's about it. I was guessing my trigger was just gunked up and needed a thorough cleaning, but the unintended firing makes me think I should take it in. Any suggestions?

Greetings,

Telephone Smith & Wesson.

There is a strong chance that they will fix it for free.

Including free shipping both ways.

Cheers,

Dave

Thank you, Dave. I've read such polarized reviews of service experiences at S&W that I hesitate to go that route. Have you had good experiences with their service?

Greetings-

There is a great deal of information about this issue on rimfire central. We used this thread in the past to identify a problem:

The safety can cause problems in this area, as well:

That's a great resource - exactly what is was looking for. Did not come up in my search either so thanks very much! I will strip it down and see what the interior is looking like, but pretty much what I thought was going on.
