Target Pistols and CT weapons ban

Post by rogersdan »

The CT assault weapons ban includes "pistols with a detachable magazine forward of the trigger." Are there any exceptions? Are the Pardini and Benelli 22LR target pistols banned as "assault weapons"?

Thanks, Dan

They are unfortunately currently considered "banned" by DPS and the dealers. An exempt list, which includes those pistols and many others (which almost mirrors California's exempt list) has been recently (months ago) approved by the DPS legal dept., and is simply sitting on the Commissioner's desk waiting for her signature and approval. I suggest that you email DPS asking for her to sign it.
I also call the firearms unit about every 2 months and voice my request. 860-685-8400. Ask for the supervisor and explain your request if you call.

Murph,

Thanks for the info. I'll send the Commissioner an email or letter.

Are they going to grandfather currently owned banned firearms?

When the law changed there was a grace period in which current owners of these guns could register them. It's legal for these folks to have and use them but not legal to sell or transfer them in state.
