1911 Targer 45 competition with Red Dot

Post by ser2711 »

In Italy is time to change in pistol competition from open sight to Red Dot.
For this reason I want to organize in my Milano shooting Club (TSN) a competition at 50 meters
Pistol Colt or similar in 45 acp.
What is best nount and more common on Camp Perry for Red Dot scope: frame mount or slide mount?
Which Red Dot scope best on slow fire competition..?
Thank you in advance for help))

On Range 4 at Camp Perry in 2015 there were a lot of one inch Ultra Dot sights mounted on the slide. Frame mounts are quite popular, too, and both methods have their fans.

I only have slide mounted red dots, but it does require slightly more gun powder than frame mounts.
I do not use frame mounts because of the following reason.

I have seen a few frame mounts cracking the frame from drilling all those holes in the frame.
It is hard to rack the frame, unless you add a frame racker.
The scope sits higher than a slide mount.

The majority of top shooters I have seen, use slide mounts.
It would be interesting to see a poll, of how many use each mount.

Frame mounts have evolved.. and when mated to the new Aimpoint H-1 Micros have many advantages not possible with a slide mount. Can actually can be mounted lower. The David Sams frame mount is more expensive, and much more machinist dependent, but if you want the ultimate, it's the way to go..Many of the top guns are using Micros on slide mounts..Frame mounts are in the minority for reasons other than being inferior.
