We bought ambidextrous mats from Champion's Shooters Supply for about $60. They are less than most ambi mats, and are nicely made. The ambi mats are handy for a club, as you don't have to have to keep track of RH and LH. I was happy to have them this season when we got quite a few more LH shooters than before.
If you qualify, a dealer/club account will save you money on larger orders.

This might be a stupid question but what makes a nat ambidextrous? I don't think I've ever seen a left or right hand mat.

: will have extra padding on one side or the other for the shooter.
Thanks, for the info, I've never seen mats like that. What is the advantage over a normal mat?
: The mat he's talking about has a big pad across the whole width of the mat.

: Below is a "handed" mat.
: If this works, this is an ambi mat

For the individual, nothing.
But for a club that has RH and LH shooters it simplifies handing out equipment. Without the ambi mats you need to have exactly the correct number (or more) of RH and LH mats - more expensive and more complicated than it needs to be.

Why not use 'ambi' mats in the first place?

We do - that is all we have.
The question was: "What is the advantage..."
The reply was: no advantage except for a club.
