FAS SP-607 recoil spring.

Post by Edmund Lam »

Any one out there have experience with an aftermarket
recoil spring for the SP-607? The factory springs are
useless. They become permanently compressed 2/3 of the
original length after 6-9 months regardless of the
amount of use.
This situation causes a lot of FTF due to incomplete
slide return.

FAS springs, 601, 602, 603 & 607 have always developed a "wave" in a short space of time. I used to change mine at least twice a year during the "deep clean" and tune-up sessions.

6-9 month life cycle is not acceptable.
I have heard people shoot their 70s vintage
GSP without every having to change springs.
Same stories for High Standards and S&W 41.
The older 607s did not have these weak springs.

I agree that it is not good. I shot a GSP for 4 years without a problem with the main spring before changing to FAS.
IMHO the shooting characteristics of the FAS (602 but the 607 has the same advantages and disadvantages) greatly outweighed the disadvantage of the required regular servicing.
Every six months - main spring, 1st stage trigger spring and recoil buffer clip.
Every 12 months - sear pressure plate spring, hammer spring and transfer bar / disconnector spring.
This was on a pistol averaging 25000 rounds per year for 10 years.
