Biathlon in NW Oregon, SW Washington?

Hey, a few years ago I sent out a call for any biathletes in MT. Since then I've ended up moving (and ironically there is a growing community in MT) to the Portland, OR Area. Does anyone know if their are any biathletes in the Portland area? I've come across the group near Stevens Pass in WA but tha...

This is what happens when we let gamers out. Oh well.

Awesome, thanks Chris. I actually bought the Izmash 7-3. I'm a starving graduate student, which means that I made many financially irresponsible decisions to pull that off. It has a similar butt hook but is no Fortner. I will pick up the book.

Barrel Weights, who and how many?

Here it is, when I bought my rifle I was told to take them all off as it's just more weight to stabilize. He also said that the idea is that more weight at the end of the barrel brings the center of mass of the gun forward, making the sight picture more stable (if you know what you are doing). Is th...

Home Practice

I'm trying to do some home practice drills, one of which is dry firing. My question is does anyone use a reduced size target and practice dry firing at something that is scaled to give you the same sight picture as a 50m target would? i.e. if I put up a target 1/10th the size of a comp target at 5m ...

Once you have the shooting fundamentals down, dryfire, dryfire and dryfire some more (at appropriately scaled targets, of course. Some good drills and targets can be found here: http://www.wabiathlon.org/misc/Articles.htm Thanks! their is a lot of good stuff on that page. I'm not quite sure how I h...

Yeah, I've come across this before, (but never with an email) but it always leads me to dead pages. I suppose I'll just give the email a try. I was thinking about this some more and can't help but think that something like a Wiki page that could be updated by anyone might be a good way to start buil...

Places to Shoot/Train Near Portland (or anywhere)

Ok, I know that I have posted similar things in the past, but I just keep beating my head against the fact that I can't seem to find other people who are doing this without driving 100's if not 1000's of miles. I'm spending the summer in Portland, OR and throwing out this hail mary in hopes that the...

Shooting drills?

I've never competed with a firearm of any kind. My background with firearms is more marathon country boy than Olympic style competition. That being said, how do you "train" for this sort of thing apart from putting lead down range? I've got the "practice shooting w and elevated HR&quo...

I did just about the same thing to my 7-3 and actually haven't gotten around to putting the new harness on it and have found the old harness is OK for now. Also, my Izmash came with several rear apertures and I have found myself changing them out depending on how much light their is on that particul...

Cold Weather Tests

Hey, I am still really new to this and was wondering who out there has tested their rifles accuracy in cold vs warm weather. I didn’t get around to it this winter (but should have) and can’t find many people that have written this type of reports. I am going to the range this week and will shoot a f...

Maybe not better, but hard to tell. :) Glad your kid is hooked on something that is good for him in so many ways.

Sounds like it was quite the event! It drew some big names too. Might have to try to find an excuse to be down in that area this time next year. Is it a permanent range up there? In other words, if I were to show up this summer with a mountain bike or pair of running shoes could I do some summer pra...

Re: expensive start...

I get that other shooting sports can be expensive. I shoot in air rifle field target and am already a few thousand into that sport as well. BUT there was a low cost of initial entry at first. The sport is great as it has a "shoot what you got" vibe for beginners. When you want to win, the...

This is the best that I have found for paper targets. The next time I make it into the shop I am going to figure out a target that will give me some feedback. If anyone knows of plans for making a mechanical biathlon target I'd love to get a look at them. http://www.coloradobiathlon.org/images/targe...
