Re: Should I Join USA Shooting?

I belong to USAS in part to support the elite shooters, but they also run the Junior Olympic program, which is essential for the long term growth of the sport. USAS News also occasionally has good articles on training, technique, etc. for the masses. They've had a lot of turnover on the administrati...

Re: Glove allowed for pistol shooting??

I know you aren't allowed to have anything that covers the wrist joint.

The normal approach is to carve up the grip. Go slow. A tiny change can make a big difference.

Re: Shooting glasses lens

The negative correction is because you are nearsighted. Your normal prescription corrects that so your relaxed focus is at infinity. You need to undo that a bit to bring your focus back closer, so you want -2.0D.

Re: Shooting glasses lens

The standard starting point is to get +0.75 diopter boost on the lens for your aiming eye. That brings your relaxed focus closer to your front sight. Depending on the brand of glasses, you can also the boost lens as a clip-on. That allows you to experiment with the amount of boost you like, and it m...

Re: Interpreting Targets — Rings of 9s

The shorter sight radius also affects the apparent width of the front sight relative to the rear. You may wan to widen the rear notch a bit to compensate.

Re: Removing stuck front sight, Steyr LP-10

I had to go through this on an LP10 a while back. There wasn't any LockTite, but some gorilla had tightened it to the point that they stripped out the socket. It was a multi-step process, starting with clamping it in my milling machine vise, and making sure the spindle was over the offending screw. ...

Re: Interpreting Targets — Rings of 9s

It's called "chicken finger", and it is a very common ailment. Lots of dry firing will help. Concentrate on smoothly ramping up pressure on the trigger. As long as you do that, the pistol is going to fire. It's often the result of trying to make things too perfect. Part of your brain is sa...

Re: Interpreting Targets — Rings of 9s

If you were snatching, they wouldn't be uniformly scattered around the center. They would be going in one or two directions. It's possibly you have a circular wobble. I'm in my early 70's, and I have an oscillatory tremor I've been dealing with for several years. It's usually from 1:00 to 7:00 in so...

Re: Interpreting Targets — Rings of 9s

Question: Can you call your shots? If you can see your sights well, and are shooting at that level, you should be able to easily tell the difference between a 3:00 nine and a 9:00 nine. If you can't, you aren't truly focused on your front sight.

Re: Optimal speed for CO2

I would consider ~ 450 fps is a good starting point. I think the C20 manual lists 150 m/sec = ~ 490 fps. Lower velocity will give you more shots per fill, and unless you are a very good shot, you probably won't notice any fall off in accuracy. If you use cheap targets, you may find that the paper te...

Re: New Air Cylinders for Morini 162 EI

The new ISSF rule says 10 years from date of manufacture. If you go to a big match that has equipment checkers, they won't let you use them.

Re: New Air Cylinders for Morini 162 EI

$350 sounds like the price with a digital gauge. An analog gauge cylinder is still expensive, but not that outrageous. The ISSF makes no mention of re-certification being allowed. I've seen cylinders that appear to have been recertified, but I've heard that Morini won't do it. It's really only an is...

Re: Miracle Cure for Fussy Benelli .22's!

There are two flavors of TAC-22. The lube on the older black box stuff was very messy. The red box stuff is cleaner, but still not as nice to handle as Aguila. CCI is OK, but the amount of hard wax they put on the bullets can vary wildly from box to box. I've had boxes where adjacent bullets were fu...

Re: Miracle Cure for Fussy Benelli .22's!

All I know is what the guy at the factory told me. I don't know if he's terribly busy or what, but the answers I get to questions are usually very terse and a bit cryptic. We have very early MP90S's with a definite 2-step bevel on the chamber edge, and they have always worked fine with the old (shor...

Re: Pellet Weight for Morini 162ei

Most people don't care what weight they shoot. You shouldn't either. Pick one & stick with it. You definitely don't want to change pellet weight at random. Going from 8.2 grains to 7.0 grains can produce between a 10 to 15 m/sec change in velocity, and that is enough that it will make a slight s...
