Cleaning Air Guns

Are Don Nygord's articles still available anywhere? He wrote an exceptional one on just this subject. With Don's sense of humour & what's right & wrong, it begins "People, people, people, how many times do I have to tell you....."
Check it out.

Please do what you're told to do, by the Dr.'s, do what you have to do. We want to keep someone like you in our "community". Glad things were caught in time.

Another 2cents: Look at the long term. The cheaper gun will be good, until you get good enough to start questioning "what if I had one that had no recoil, had weights so I could fine-tune it just for me?" With the LP20, you will never have that question "is it the equipment, or is it ...

Once your mind is thinking "maybe I should change the sights", change them! Otherwise this niggling little thought keeps happening with each shot - "Geez, I shoulda changed the sights" . It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Adjust the sight, even if it's only one click, then yo...

Abort the shot! If you are holding long enough to be consciously "thinking" & refining - you're holding way too long. Abort it. Once you start thinking, you're done. Just as you practice timed or rapid with a timer, do so with your precision. Start it as you start your raise, & if ...

I wasn't thinking of holding the arm lower. I'm short, so when I went to sub-six, it just seemed I had found my natural place to settle. That's my point. It was a natural hold for me, & wherever you hold, it should be natural, consistent, & allow a clear sight-picture.

I started with a centre hold. But eventually, as my eyes aged, ( I was in my late 30's, early 40's then) or if the lighting was not great, I couldn't keep focused on the front sight. Black on black on black. Also, as time went on, my arm seemed to want to settle & hold steady lower than the cent...

Don't be a tough guy & try to "work it out". Don't use other peoples' excercises/therapy. Do not self-diagnose. Do get to a doctor, preferably orthepedic. Do stop all activity that causes pain. With these soft-tissue injuries, by the time you feel pain, there's already a fair amount of...

Thanks for supporting my thinking. I've been coaching juniors for about 8 years. Initially I made the mistake of "talking" everything from safety, to technique, to attitude, to mental training, along with my own experiences. Felt awful because I knew I wasn't reaching them. I don't have ki...

Keep it short. Keep it concrete/ specific. Get them shooting!
Then you can stop them, have them do or try something, then shoot again.
Mostly, the attention span is very short.
And they really came to shoot guns, didn't they?

Olympic shooting sports dead? The Olympic spirit certainly is. Ask a couple of quota-spot winners in Canada! Canada actually gave back quota spots! The Canadian Olympic Assoc. has now decided that if your scores are not equal to the top 12, then the spots earned aren't filled, & are turned in. H...

It could be something as simple as blinking at that very milli-second.
It was something I would "pick up" every once in a while. Thank God I had some great shooting buddies who would often watch me, & would pick that up.
Get someone to watch you shoot, & see if you're blinking.

If your back sight blade is too close in width to the front sight, you'll get that halo, or ghost image, especially in bright light. Try something like a wide back sight blade & a medium front sight. Don't use a narrow front sight, as this is also part of that problem.

Thanks for all the ideas, folks. I coach junior air pistol & they really like to shoot clay targets, hung on strings. They love the "smash" on the concrete floor, in our indoor range. I have about 10 kids, so silly little prizes from the dollar store also is enjoyed.

My cookies & brownies are that heavy, without lead pellets! Actually, I just got back to them yesterday. They had gotten pushed to the back of the counter. Anyhow, the coke - actually pepsi worked well. Probably because I left them that long, some of them even took on a "golden" hue. H...
