I've never had a problem getting PC Woody to stick to my grips without adding any holes. If there have been used a lot I wipe them with alcohol.

PC Woody is widely available at local stores and online. It cures quickly, is durable enough to last for years and is still pretty easy to sand, file or carve as necessary. JB Kwikwood is a little harder to modify after it hardens.

I use grip tape or superglue and a sample of sandblasting media I got years ago. I would think a pointed Dremel bit would work. I don't think traditional stippling with a punch and hammer is a good idea as it would probably break off chips.

Precision pistol shooters are a minority of gun buyers. Those who actually dry fire regularly are a minority of competition shooters in my experience. Most guns will withstand a dry fire every now and then.

Some guns can be dry fired. My FWB manual says not to use any flag or cushion when dry firing.
