Probably a Walther LG-400-E Monotec in the area of $3,600 to $4,000.

Re: Walther KK500 Blacktec

Nice!

For the past few years, I was in the market for something exactly like that for my two kids and didn't wanna pay $10K for a couple of Walther SB rifles.
It's a nice starting point for shooters on a budget to improve a quality basic rifle with add-ons...

Re: New Daisy 599 sportster rifle

After my third trip to a national completion by airplane, the Daisy 599 might be a better choice than the Challenger 2009. The Challengers do not travel well by air. We went out of our way to disassemble and bubble-wrap the barrel/cylinder assembly and we still had two of the five start leaking in t...

They should give you a VAT discount of about 20%, too.

Re: CMP Sportsman class air rifles, Which one is best and why?

Hey WhiteFox, You probably won't be impressed with he trigger, then. The lowest you can dial it down to is about 1½ pounds, compared to a FWB300 which is probably 5 - 8 ounces. I think they do that from the factory so that it stays legal for sporter competition regardless of the adjustment. But I th...

Re: CMP Sportsman class air rifles, Which one is best and why?

Crosman Challenger 2009. In the last five years, I've been to local, state, and national sporter competitions and I've never seen anyone get a medal with anything other than a Challenger. I've seen a few kids make it to the 8-man finals with the T-200, but that's as far as they get. This year was th...

A decent precision rifle is about triple you budget. This is the best sporter rifle out there at $565. http://www.champchoice.com/store/Main.aspx?p=ItemDetailOptions&item=CH2009S It comes with a Walther barrel and upgraded precision style sights. The trigger is adjustable down to about 1½ pounds...

Re: Hammerli AR-20, decent starting air rifle?

My son borrowed one from the CMP South (Anniston, AL) to shoot 60 shots standing, just for fun. It was heavier than a real rifle. He could barely hold it up for the last 20 - 30 shots because it was so incredibly heavy. It made his back hurt for several days afterward. I saw the inner workings of on...

Re: old vs new tech

In 1990 it needed a 579 to get 8th place in the AP60 Qualification stage at the World Championships. In the last few World Championships you needed 581/582 for the same position. Equipment or training? I was wondering that a couple of weeks ago myself. When my kid first started shooting sporter air...

Re: Questions from a beginner

If you're just beginning, it's all about balance, relaxing in the right places, comfort, and consistency. Unless you are shooting a K-Mart rifle and pellets, the gun is the least of your problems. Work on your personal ergonomics and economy of movement. Adjust everything on the rifle such that you ...

Re: New Daisy 599 sportster rifle

I finally got my sons trained to come off the firing line to get air as soon as they finish shooting. It gives 'em a chance to beat the stress of standing in line and lets them get their resting heart rate back down after the walk. And sometimes it helps to take that walk away from the firing line a...

Re: New Daisy 599 sportster rifle

I think the stock looks better than the Challenger. One of my main complaints about the Challenger is the grip on the rifle makes it hard to reach the trigger if you have small hands. The stock on the Daisy seems to have more of a pistol grip. The butt plate and cheek piece attachments seem better ...

Re: New Daisy 599 sportster rifle

I thought the new Daisy 599 was very Challenger-ish, too. Ambi charging handle, the stocks seem to be of similar dimensions with very similar adjustments, and barrels made by reputable European arms makers. From the 599's .pdf owner's manual, I don't foresee the trigger/air delivery assemblies being...

Re: New Daisy 599 sportster rifle

Agreed! I probably "wasted" about $3,000 outfitting my older son for precision shooting! His best 3P precision score in competition with a Walther LG-400 is a 571 vs. a sporter competition score of 560 with a Challenger (not even with the new precision sights). In the beginning, he wasn't ...

Re: New Daisy 599 sportster rifle

Not a bad looking rifle. However, the proven Crosman Challenger is $30 cheaper and now comes with cantable precision sights. It's pretty much a no brainer. The Daisy's only upside for a junior shooter is fewer trips to the compressed air station. I'm looking forward to seeing them in completion to s...

Re: Question about sight risers?

Yes, the center height of a 22mm front sight will be 2mm higher than an 18mm sight. Another thing to keep in mind is that the center height of every manufacturer's 18 or 22mm front sight is not the same. There are 2 and 4mm riser spacers available for these situations. You'd think they'd give you l...

Re: Question about sight risers?

Is she using a 22mm front aperture instead of 18mm? Just a guess. marky-d Does the aperture of a 18mm front sight sit 2mm lower than that of an 22mm one??? I would've assumed that the apertures would be at the same line-of-sight height from the barrel. I put risers on my son's Walther LG-400 with s...

Re: Shops in USA

As for air rifles, I got a great deal on a Walther air rifle and accessories from 10.9 with no problems. https://www.creedmoorsports.com/ If you happen to go to the CMP Range at Anniston, Alabama, (not too far from the Talladega Marksmanship Park) you can walk into Creedmoor Sports and get stuff and...
